The Details

We’ve all heard the term “shit happens”.  And sadly for Jen & Eric, ALL of the “shit” happened on their wedding day.  I was SO excited to photograph their Calamigos Ranch wedding.  However, as fate would have it, for the first time in my life, I came down with an incredibly severe (& almost life-threatening as my doctor’s put it) case of pneumonia which caused me to be hospitalized for a month.  The month of Jen & Eric’s wedding.  As I was sitting in my hospital room, progressively getting worse, I realized there was no way I was going to be discharged in time.  I cried.  I felt horrible to be missing their big day.  I’d never been late to, let alone missed a wedding prior to this hospitalization & the thought of letting them down broke my heart.  I had lost my voice from all of the coughing & was on oxygen, so I couldn’t even make a phone call, but rather had to relay all of this information via email.  In the meantime I reached out to my amazing network of fellow photographers to find a replacement.  To my delight, my friend & mentor Jeremy Chou contacted me saying he was available & would love to help me out in this way.  I cried … like literally bawling my eyes out.  I don’t think I’ve ever been so overwhelmed & grateful knowing that these amazing clients were in such capable & talented hands.

Fast forward to their wedding day.  Jeremy gets into a car accident … air bags & all, which totaled his vehicle.  After exchanging information, he literally uber’ed from the scene directly to the wedding venue!  Sadly there were issues with Jen’s hair & makeup, florals, etc.  All of the details she had invested so much time & energy into weren’t as she dreamed.  However, she’s got a great attitude & outlook & at the end of the day they were happily married.

The Inspiration

For their 1 year anniversary, I thought it would be fun to put together a small styled shoot for this sweet couple.  I am so grateful for clients who are kind, compassionate & understanding & I wanted to give them something that would last a lifetime.  So I contacted a few of my wedding industry friends to see what we could come up with.  Thanks to the incredibly talented hair & makeup artist Emily Wright & our amazingly gifted florist Stacey Deutsch, we were able to provide Jen & Eric with a beautiful anniversary session! Hanger provided by the amazingly talented Jess.
